21st Century Policing

The President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing was established in 2014 to identify best practices that would promote effective crime reduction while building public trust. Findings were released in a final report in May 2015.

The final report recommended an outline built on six core pillars of effective law enforcement and service to communities.

Pillar 1: Building Trust and Legitimacy

Pillar 2: Policy and Oversight

Pillar 3: Technology and Social Media

Pillar 4: Community Policing and Crime Reduction

Pillar 5: Officer Training and Education

Pillar 6: Officer Wellness and Safety

Our Police Department fully embraces the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing and has a standing department committee reviewing the Pillars and evaluating the recommendations under each, in particular, Pillar Four ‘Community Policing and Crime Reduction.’ A list of GBPD community policing initiatives and efforts are kept current under our website’s Open Data Portal.  The committee releases updates to all personnel on their work.
