Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force
The Great Barrington Police Department has officers assigned on an as needed basis with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force The mission of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force program is to assist state and local law enforcement agencies in developing an effective response to cyber enticement and the production, possession, and distribution of unlawful images, contraband images, and images depicting the sexual exploitation of minors. This support encompasses forensic and investigative components, training and technical assistance, victim services, prevention and community education.
Berkshire County Special Response Team
The Berkshire County Special Response Team (BCSRT) is a highly trained, specially equipped unit that is tasked to respond to incidents that exceed the capabilities of standard police resources. The BCSRT is the county’s resource for special operations. Members of BCSRT are drawn from any full time county law enforcement agency. The current team is made up of operators from Pittsfield, Dalton, North Adams, Lenox, Lee, Great Barrington and the Berkshire County Sherriff’s Office.
BCSRT is tasked with a wide variety of tactical situations, including but not limited to:
- Riots
- Civil Disturbances
- High Risk Search & Arrest Warrants
- Wanted or Escaped Prisoners
- Barricaded Subjects
- Hostage Situations
- Dignitary Protection
- Emotionally Disturbed Persons
- Search and Rescue
In addition to the team’s operational expertise, BCSRT has competed in three regional and national SWAT competitions in the past and the team has also been involved in providing training to other law enforcement personnel and agencies.
Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force
The Great Barrington Police Department has officers assigned on an as needed basis with the Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force.
Formerly known as the Berkshire County Drug Task Force, The Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force is a collaboration of full-time police officers from different jurisdictions throughout Berkshire County. These officers are assigned to the task force to investigate crimes within the jurisdiction of Berkshire County and to work with other State and Federal Agencies when necessary. Officers work on both a full-time and part-time basis and manage their cases through the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office. Officers are assigned the task force by the Chief of Police of their respective communities. Great Barrington has three officers currently assigned. They are compensated by the District Attorney’s Office at no cost to their municipalities and work alongside members of the Massachusetts State Police Narcotic/Detective Unit assigned to the DA’s Office. The primary responsibility of the task force is drug investigations.
