This has been the most rewarding career that anyone could ask for.
I loved every minute of being a police officer in my hometown for the past 40 years.
Serving as the Chief of Police of the Great Barrington Police Department has been the greatest honor of my professional life.
Thank you to town leadership over the years that have supported me and the Department.
Thank you to our citizens. Over the years you’ve given us a new station, the best equipment and training, and all around support. The taxpayers have always been good to their police. Thank you——You are the best.
This isn’t a job, it’s a lifestyle. When you’re in this role you if you don’t have the support of your family behind you, your’re not going to be successful. I am deeply indebted to my wife Cathy, and children Brittany, Matthew and Michael. And my late parents and my entire family. I was only able to do all of this for so long because of all of you.
I want to thank each officer and our wonderful civilian staff for the support they gave me to lead this agency.
We have taken concrete steps to enhance the department’s responsiveness, transparency and accountability to the public we serve. We’ve been a leader in accreditation, 21st Century Policing Ideas. Co Responder, police reform and so many other initiatives.
I am extremely proud of the progress and accomplishments the officers, our civilian staff, and I have made together. The Great Barrington Police Department is composed of some of the best law enforcement and civilian personnel in the state and I leave with the privilege of having worked alongside all of them.
In closing I am incredibly grateful for the honor and privilege to have served as Great Barrington’s Chief of Police.
May God bless our town and may God bless the Great Barrington Police Department.
Thank You……….
William R. Walsh, Jr.
